“two people were married-
the act was outrageous,
the bride was contagious,
she burned like a bride…”
- paul simon
Two years ago today – on the last day of a three week adventure through Peru that took us eighteen hours down the Amazon River by boat, to Lima’s bustling metropolis, into Cuzco’s rich history, atop the majestic peaks of Machu Picchu, and down into the fertile folds of the Scared Valley – we spontaneously decided to get married.
In a private ceremony, just for us, (apart from a little live music of course)
in the same dress I wore on our first date and a flower crown that Jamison sewed together with dental floss, we set the intention – amid rose petals and calla lillies- for the life we wanted to continue co-creating together with a short meditation and 11 handwritten vows. It was nothing I’d ever imagined and everything I ever could’ve hoped for.
As I think about what’s unfolded since that magical afternoon along the Urubama River, I am overcome with gratitude.
I’m grateful for the little things, like having a partner who rises before I do and
blends a concoction of kale, spinach, coconut water, bee pollen, Udo Oil, banana, strawberries, blueberries and flaxseed into a smoothie and brings it to me in bed each morning.
I’m grateful for the BIG things, like the unbendable trust we’ve foraged, allowing for ample freedom to discover places and friendships independently of each other.
I’m grateful for the enthusiastic applause I get from three rooms away as I play the same song on my guitar for the 47,365th time.
I’m grateful for eyes full of unwavering respect, and admiration, each time our gaze meets.
I’m grateful we like to boogie down, laugh hard, and travel wide.
I’m grateful for our ability to love deeply, and most certainly, for the unyielding encouragement we offer each other as we pursue our dreams and grow into the people we want to be.
I’d say I’m a very lucky lady, but I don’t believe in luck. I do, however, believe in the immense power of gratitude, and rarely a day passes when I don’t think about how truly grateful I am to have created such an incredible partnership with this extraordinary man.

Em, that was beautiful. Thank you for being the trail blazer that you are and for setting such an amazing example for those, like me, that follow behind you. You (and Jamison) are a constant reminder of what’s important. XO
